This is a horrendous segment and an unquantifiable statistic. There is literally no way no way to measure weather a pitch is called a strike because it was yanked 14 inches into the middle of the zone (which isn't really fooling anybody anyway), or if it's just poor umpiring. Modern catching is trash.

Arguments against the Designated Hitter rule: The DH seems to receive an unfair advantage. The other batters all take the field each inning, standing out there in the heat readying themselves to catch the ball with every pitch. This must take a toll on a person. The DH just sits in the dugout, resting. Part of the ritual of baseball is the defense taking the field. It’s exciting. But now, one stays behind and sits on his backside. The DH hurts the ritual. Football has a platoon system, but every offensive and defensive player takes part in it. With baseball, the DH is the only one. It’s incongruous. Also with football, it’s not practical to have a guy out there all game because of all the physical contact. You don’t have that problem with baseball. Baseball offense is not specialized. Every player bats. In football, there’s specialization. One guy throws, a few guys catch, a few run, others block, others kick the ball. Some never touch the ball. So having offensive and defensive specialization doesn’t seem odd because the sport is specialized by design. With baseball, again, it’s incongruous because on offense everyone bats and on defense everyone tries to catch the ball. We think of players by their defensive position. Ernie Banks was a shortstop for the Cubs. Johnny Bench was a catcher for the Reds. Gil Hodges was a first baseman for the Dodgers. The DH is the only one named for his offensive position. It’s incongruous. We rate their offensive output by their defensive position. A shortstop who hits .260 is pretty good. For a first baseman that would be a problem. So we think of offensive in terms of defense. The DH throws all of that off.

This young man put me in the mind of Dale Murphy. His manner, his demeanor and his ability! When I was a boy I watched Dale Murphy (Mr. Clean) if some of you remember that. We need more like them both in baseball. Not the flamboyance and drama of today! Thank you Dale Murphy and Matt Olson. These are the heros kids need to look up to!

Relaxed in reference to your mind set which will allow you to stay in the moment every pitch ,but aggressively chaotic in your approach to hit the ball..Breathe in that box bc you will need that calmness to transition into explosion.Like a grenade..The grenade rolls out very calmly and then ,well you know 😳

First rule about which of the two runner is safe....."the runner that originally had the base is always safe"....not necessarily true. If in that situation the bases were loaded, the original runner would be out. Because the runner from second would have been forced to advance.

Bowa is my all time favorite Philly. Not a HOF. Maz was a better hitter and was the Gold standard for 2nd Basemen. As good as Bowa was-He wasn’t quite Ozzie Smith at short. 15 all star games. Ozzie was also more of a base stealer and scored more runs per season-although not by much.

it looks like he did this interview from his F-350 King Ranch on his ranch in Texas. awesome. Jeff Kent signed a ball for me in the W hotel lobby in Seattle in July of 2001. thank you Jeff. regarding the Hall of Fame: Kent never had the hall of fame bloodline, he bounced around and came out of nowhere, he was a nobody until he got to bat behind Barry Bonds, and rode BB's coattails to the 2000 MVP award. Kent had no sex appear and played for too many different teams. he will never get the votes to make it to Cooperstown. not that i care, after none of Bonds, A--Rod, Manny, Sheffield, Sosa, Palmiero, and McGwire made the "hall of fame" ...

Darling is right about the way pitching has evolved. These guys are making too much money to stick around long enough to win 300 games. Probably won't ever happen again. Buehrle was similar to Greg Maddux in many ways. Soft tosser, great control. Multiple Gold Gloves. Maddux just had a better team around him.

First of all let me say that very conceivably Dick Allen was the greatest hitter and baseball player of his generation. And if this is true, Dick's not being in the hall is just another aspect of his glory and legend to those of us who knew his magic as a ballplayer and superstar. But here we have Jim Kaat, who knw=ew Dick, and was much respected as a man and ballplayer BY Dick. - And Jim is just so well spoken in his unqualified admiration of Dick's baseball genious and artistry. And Jim relates a story of Dick and the White Sox upsetting a no hitter by Nolan Ryan at Comiskey Park in August of 1974. Coincidentally, this moment is captured on UA-cam with Harry Caray from a local Chicago broadcast, WSNS channel 44. Please enjoy!'' ua-cam.com/video/tGxBESt7h5k/v-deo.html

i think buehrle is worthy, he carved a very unique legacy for himself as a quick tempo, pitch to contact, workhorse pitcher, his fielding was also great and created in my opinion one of the greatest web gems of all time, i think that makes him iconic in a way that isn't reflected when you look at just his stat page in isolation and i think that's important for a HoF case

The people in these comments talking about him not having 1500 hits like he didn’t contribute IMMENSELY in so many other ways. Even with that he has a higher batting average than 12/15 catchers in the hall. Best catcher of his generation with a list of accolades to match and 3 WS titles. Caught 3 no-nos and a perfect game as well.

Jackie Robinson's landing gear was completely down with the foot that would touch the plate; which meant that his tippy toes in his right leg were touching ground in his slide -- quite the feat by the way because his right knee was bent with said toes plowing the earth. Yogi Berra's tag was more on his shin and not his toes, which had already touched the plate, but was no small feat in itself as he had to secure the ball first before trying to make the tag.

It’s sad the nit wits of today only acknowledge what they’ve seen in person or recently. I notice it when there are polls asking opinions on the greatest players in basketball, football and baseball. Most often they select a more recent player. A select few take the time to research the players of the past. Or they say , “when so and so played his competition was against plumbers and shoe salesmen. Willie Mays is before my time but he is without a doubt one of the greatest players of all time in any era and he could hit any pitcher and excel. He was that damn good. In basketball polls you rarely see young people cast votes for Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain. It’s always Lebron. It galls me how people vote yet only know what they’ve recently seen. Wilt still shares or still holds some 40+ records and he retired 50 years ago. It’s the result of exceptional skill not weak competition . Willie Mays is 6th on all time Hr list and he retired in 1973!! He was a 5 tool player and exceptional in every single aspect of the game. He had no weaknesses!
